FPA at Brands Hatch 2009 Qualifying 2- Race Report - Vasiliauskas takes FPA pole at Brands Hatch

Kazim Vasiliauskas has taken his first FPA pole after seeing off both Richard Plant and Adam Foster in a frantic battle at the head of the field.

The top three were separated by just 0.023s, but it was Vasiliauskas who set the quickest time as the session drew to a close. Plant grabbed a front row position after setting his flying lap in the final minute, which dropped Adam Foster down to third: "I have mixed emotions," said Plant. "It was a really good session, but I would feel even better if I had got the pole!"

Josef Newgarden could not repeat his form from this morning but the American will still start tomorrow's second race from a creditable fourth position. Maxime Jousse continued with his progression - ending the session in fifth ahead of Ashley Babbra.

Paul Rees took seventh and Kenny Andrews set the eighth quickest time, shortly before he ended his qualifying in the gravel at Sheene Curve. Andrews wasn't the only driver to endure a difficult moment as the session was red flagged early on when Ash Davies made contact with the barriers on the exit of Druids. Tom Duggan also went off at Druids, whilst Josef Newgarden and Jose Alonso both had trips across the gravel on the outside of Stirling's Bend.

Alonso was able to recover and will line up on the fifth row of the grid and he will start alongside Tristan Vautier who bounced back from his disappointing session in qualifying one with a solid display this afternoon (Friday) - the Frenchman rounded out the top ten.

Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2009 Formula Palmer Audi Championship will take place at Brands Hatch tomorrow (Saturday) and round 3 will be run on Sunday.
